Don’t get Peed on!

Okay so I get that incontinence is a major part of the industry I work in, BUT that doesn’t mean we cant have tricks up our sleeves as caregivers to prevent being urinated on.

For this one you will need a disposable bed pad and a small trash bag. Before you get the patient sitting on the toilet, get prepared.

1. Lift the lid of the toilet and at the edge of it place the disposable bed pad on the toilet with just a corner over the toilet bowl with a majority of it hanging out. 2. Replace the lid on top of the pad so it will not fall off.

3. Once your patient is sitting on the toilet, pull it between the legs of your patient and cover their clothing as much as you can still leaving part of it tucked under the seat.

4. When the patient is ready to stand up move the pad that is in the front of the clients up to the front of the patient so if the begin to urinate upon standing it will be absorbed by the pad containing it and preventing it from going all over.

5. Once client is in standing position before removing pad, pull under garments up to about mid thigh. Then gently and carefully from behind the client pull the pad through their legs and place in small garbage bag to maintain sanitation.

Then the rest is as it should be pull up the bottoms and don’t forget to help them wash their hands.

Please let me know any tricks or tips you have learned that might help someone else.
