Starting the Day🌞

This is the beginning of the day and often times I find sets the day up for a good or bad experience depending on how it starts. Make sure you have a positive attitude because if you’re happy it can be contagious. Getting up and getting dressed can often be uncomfortable and it is important that the client feels comfortable. Think about it, how comfortable are you with someone you don’t really know seeing you without clothing? Or having to help get you cleaned up or bathed? Caregivers, if they are empathetic, can help to make these morning routines easier by putting the client at ease and letting them know what is going to happen before they begin.

  • Where are we going? This is the normal response I get from clients who suffer from my Alzheimer and Dementia clients. This then becomes and explanation point. It is time to start the day! How about we go get dressed for breakfast? I find asking questions sometimes works.

  • Getting Bathed! Helping with personal care is extremely important and to clients who need the help it can often be uncomfortable for them. Keep them in the loop with what your doing so they can be more at ease.

  • Getting Dressed on the Toilet. For clients with mobility issues sometimes it is easier to get them dressed while they are doing their business. If they need to be toileted this can be an ample opportunity to change their clothing.

These are just some examples of experiences I have had with clients. It is always important to remember they are people too and someday we may be in their shoes. What are your experiences in this or what would you want your home care to look like when you need the little extra help? Let me know and Keep Smiling!!
