Creative🎨 Arts & Crafts
Artistic expression can be a wonderful way for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients to stay engaged and feel accomplished. Creativity doesn’t require words and can serve as a therapeutic outlet for both emotions and cognitive stimulation.
Painting or Drawing: Provide simple art supplies such as crayons, markers, or watercolors. Encourage the patient to create freely, whether through abstract art or guided activities like coloring in a coloring book. Art can offer a sense of calm and self-expression.
Crafting: Simple craft projects, such as making jewelry, assembling a scrapbook, or working with clay, allow patients to engage their hands and creativity. Keep the projects simple and focus on the process, not the final product.
Puzzles: Simple jigsaw puzzles are an excellent way to engage patients in problem-solving and focus. Opt for puzzles with large pieces or those that feature familiar, comforting images, like animals, landscapes, or family photos.
Don’t forget the key is to focus on activities that are simple, familiar, and tailored to the person’s abilities and interests. Check out the new Jigsaw Puzzles in the gift store. These make awesome gifts and are fun activities for all. What is your favorite way to be creative while engaging with your clients?
