🦃Day

Happy Thanksgiving all and if you are actually reading this on thanksgiving I from the bottom of my heart am thankful for your support and time. It is a busy day for cooking and traveling. A time when families gather and you have the opportunity to sit back and be thankful for all the things you have been blessed with. So I hope today above all else you are thankful for the Lord and thankful for your family.

A few years ago I had a client Thanksgiving night. As her family had gone away for the holidays. Now this honestly is a more usual then you would think occurrence especially when families don’t live close to each other and it is harder for our elderly loved ones to travel. It is always good to know there is someone willing to share the holiday with them. Whether this includes cooking for them or just showing up for a meal, most people don’t want to be alone for the holidays.

I always try to get my clients (we will call this client C2 )to help to have that stimulation. This could come in many different ways depending on their abilities. Having them sit and stir ingredients or even adding the marshmallows to the top of the sweet potatoes, (just watch they don’t try to sneak a few behind your back) some type of interaction is always better than none. I had C2 set the table for us this night. I put all the necessary tableware out and ready and C2 set it up.  Although most of the food was prepared by me at home the night before, I had left the green bean casserole to be done at C2’s house. C2 liked to put the crispy onions on the top of the green bean casserole. I also had C2 add the whipped cream to the dessert, yes it was pumpkin pie.

During dinner to make conversation, I just do like I would if I was with my own family within the appropriate context, I asked, “What is your favorite Thanksgiving memory?”. C2 sat there for a few minutes, as their memories were not once what they used to be, then said oh I have a story for you. We will use the names Lucy and George for this and I’m turning into a short story so enjoy my version of C2’s tale available on Saturday.

I enjoyed listening to C2’s memory. After that we finished our meal discussed other memories and then had our pumpkin pie. While I cleaned up C2 continued to tell me about her hopes for the following year and how much she was looking forward to spending it with her family as they would be there.

I was very thankful for that thanksgiving, because taking that step back into C2’s past gave me something to look forward to and thankful for the amazing memories I hope to be blessed with in years to come. I hope some day to sit at the table and be surrounded by my kids and their kids seeing them happy and prospering. What are your favorite Thanksgiving memories with clients or a story you have heard from your client?

Happy Turkey Day all and as always Keep that Smile Smiling:)
